One of the most popular forms of entertainment throughout the world are  MOVIES.

2.  Why do people visit  cinema less than before ?

There are many cinemas in Prague which offer film shows several times a day all the year round. In the past  people used to go to the cinema much more than now. The cinemas were often packed and the tickets were sold out. People had to wait in long queues in front of the box office and it was common to book the tickets in advance. Since that time the attendance has declined due to the high admission and the fact that many people prefer watching films at home .

  1. Do you follow the reviews before you go to the cinema?
  2. What do you know about the history of the film ?

The first cinema performance was in Paris, on 28 December 1895 - cinematograph of bros Lumiérs -only 35 tickets were sold then - 10 films were shown, each shorter than one minute.

First film material was so inflammable that 140 spectators died when the film caught fire during a performance in Paris  in 1897. First films were silent (Silent Era), and black and white with very simple special effects. The first successful sound film called „The Jazz Singer“ appeared in 1927. First colour films (Technicolor system) appeared in the 1930s ( „The Wizard of Oz“ „Gone With the Wind“)

The movie industry started in Hollywood, California in 1911. This suburb of Los Angeles soon became home to many great movie stars. Between 1930 and 1945 the town turned into a huge entertainment factory controlled by the two giant studios,  MGM and Paramount. 7 500 movies were made in this period. Since then American movies have been seen all over the world, and for a lot of people this is the only way they learn about the United States. Since films often show unrealistic, made-up stories , many people have a rather distorted view of American life.

The first wide-screen film, „The Robe“, was made in 1953......
