Symbols are something visible that relate to principles or historic events by association, resemblance, or convention, for example the American flag, state flags, and town seals. Monuments refer to large structures such as the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial. Traditions are the passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation, a time honored practice.
