inductive reasoning – Reasoning that begins by citing a number of specific instances or examples and then shows how collectively they constitute a general principle. Inductive reasoning occurs when we make observations about life around us, combine these observations with what we already know and reach a conclusion. Another way of expressing the process of inductive reasoning is that it moves from the specific (observation and prior knowledge) to the general (general conclusion).
