Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castille "The Catholic Kings," whose marriage in 1469 cemented the nation of Spain through a merger of its most powerful provinces: Aragon and Castile.  Together they completed the Reconquest of Spain with the successful conclusion of the Siege of Granada in January, 1492. Muslims were thus driven south to North Africa. In April, 1492, Jews were given three months to leave Spain. The expulsion of the Jews and Moors and their expertise in finance and administration was to have fatal economic consequences in the sixteenth century.
