Using Video games in Education

Games, in such of thing that started with games , people will comment it was just wasting time but since new generation that have been appeared since the early 1970s. Combination of video games for the education is more knowledgeable and will have 2 in 1, that mean learning and  playing at the same time. The first commercial video game was Computer Space by Nutting Assosiates was introduced in 1971 by them. Videos games have been able to engage and capture the attention of students in away that no other method of teaching has been able to. Now a days Educational games are too obviously educational. The best way to learn is to do it when everybody having fun, that the idea behind educating through gaming. They have a very direct and obvious educational slant which students will pick up on immediately and then they will switch off. Games have to be fun first, educational second.

The games need to have high production values, educate in an indirect way and they must be used to teach the right things beyond simple boring facts and figures. Some scientists mention that, Popular online video games like World Of War craft and second life can be used as a powerful tool for educating children. The researchers believe that the video games can be used to teach subjects where students are abel to carry out imaginary experiments and improve their ability to learn. In fact, when students play videogames they can experience much more powerful form of learning than when they're in the classroom. Learning isn't about memorizing isolated facts. It's about connecting and manipulating them. Recent statistics found 62% of student said they would find games motivating and 59% of teachers would consider using games in the classroom.

The teacher use games to motivate their students, teach something complex because they like playing games. Teachers need to be really clear about what learning they went out the road of using it, so that they can always bring the focus back to the learning activities. There is some suggestion the possibility of allowing student to write about games as they would books. Book reviews meet games review. Another suggestion it can be use a program that help student to visual a character, load a game, arrange the characters as they would appear on the stage. This program called "The Sim".
In the field of Journal, students can be asked to keep a record of their progress in a journal. The journal will be used once a week, after playing the game, the student will make a short summary of what happen in the game as well as comment on the event of the game that they like or disliked the most. If the students are at an advanced level they could be asked to comment on some of the more abstract concepts that appear in the game, such as love friendship and parenthood. Once the students have finished the game they would write an entry regarding the elements of literature and the video game they played. In their journals they would have short summaries of the events that happened in the game, so they would sort those events into the introduction, the rising action, the climax, the descending action and the resolution of the game. Some games give open endings and let the players fill in the gaps with their imaginations. In this case of games, a good journal entry to ask the student for would be one about what they think happened after the game ended. The role of teacher is to have knowledgeable of video games and the right chose of that game. I n addition , video games are increasingly used to support teaching and learning e.g. , using Adventures to assist in teaching English (ESL) teachers by using games could Provide motivation . develop skills and encourage collaboration ,but in school Classrooms .

Teachers must be able to take this advantage of teachable moments. When it comes to selecting or modifying or creating video games and simulations for the classroom, the teacher must play these as the same roles. Teachers can save as a coach to student before, during and after play. Teachers can help student develop their own powers of decision making strategy and met cognition as they play through a game or simulation those helping students grow in their ability to regulate their own learning. However teachers need to develop their own literacy in video games and imulations this can only happen by learning to use the technologies and play the games themselves.

Finally, video games can be used to improve student's instruction. They expose student to the language, both spoken and written and teachers can hold several activities that involve speaking and writing which allows for integration of the four language skills. Video games also keep the students interested in their stories so they  are willing immersing themselves in the story worlds. The student who play video games improves faster than that of those who do not play.
