Video Gaming as a Discourse Community

Video Gaming has been around since the early 80’s. Many people would never believe that video gaming is a sport. With today’s technology a lot of video games are sports. Playing games is not only a sport, but also a discourse community and a place to have fun. A discourse community in gaming refers to uploading pictures, communicating, and share info, to strategize, and simply have a good time.

The common goal in video games is to show your skill against others or simply yourself.
There is no specific sex or weight class in gaming it is meant for people of all ages. The challenge about gamming is to get good at all games. All gamers have a common goal to become great at the game they play. Some people even take there hobbies into careers and end up getting paid for making or even just testing video games. I believe this is one major goal all big gamers want to do.

Other values you can get in playing games are to meet new friends, learn how to get better. Another value they have in common is to share pictures with each other. Or if u want u can video chat with each other. One of the neat features of playing with friends online is if you get stuck on a level you can just send a message to one of your friends online who you know played the game and get help to pass it. So our final value we get in this discourse community is to be able to keep in contact with your friends.

Typical genres of video gaming is to be top of the leader boards, the most exiting part is when your dead last and end up pulling off a glorious victory at the end of a game. Although there is no prize, it’s a form of accomplishment you have to show the world. Then when you have wins, you also have those shameful losses. Therefore I am motivated to do better on my next round. Typical genres fit into video games in many ways this is just one of them, and its how I fit into the genre of the video game society.

There are rules and regulations in everything for life but in video games unless it’s a tournament the rules and regulations aren’t really enforced, as long as you don’t push the situation. All gamer profiles on live have a “submit player review.” Witch means if someone is being vulgar or inappropriate in any way you may report him or her to x-box live. If they get enough complaints on a specific file and depending on the severity of a rule you broke, that could lead to a permanent ban or just a temporary ban. There are many types of different rules and regulations. I for one choose to abide by the terms of agreement I signed up for so I can enjoy the game.

My name is Hitano Baca and my discourse community I belong to is playing video games. There are countless different community’s I have been apart of in life. But in order to belong to this community, I must make sure I abide by the rules, and I am interactive with others online. Provided that information I told you, it’s really easy to be apart of this discourse community. This is my favorite discourse community to be apart of. I play games to have fun and talk with friends.
