Meaning of israel :
Refers to the people that God formed a covenant with and who established a nation guided by God’s providence, centered on the covenant with Moses. The name was connected to the patriarch Jacob, whom the Bible also calls “Israel”, meaning “to struggle with God” from the story of Genesis 32:28. The name can also mean “God rules” and so becomes the name and the designation for the people who are in a covenant relationship with God, allowing God and no one else to be their ruler.
