TIA/EIA: Telecommunications Industry Association and Electronics Industries Alliance. These are 2 American trade organisations that jointly develop and publish a series of standards relating to structured voice and data wiring for LANs. This became necessary after 1984 when the telephone industry in America was deregulated, transferring responsibility for on premises cabling to the building owner.
